Cheats and Cheating

Ever cheated in exams? Like not only asking and sharing verbally but with cheats and other means. Honestly it is wrong ethically but a quote said, Students cheat because the education system checks their memory and not knowledge. Quite true to be honest. But this whole concept of cheating and scoring more than the ones who have actually studied a lot is a torture to them. And the disdain they view the others with is beyond the world in exam halls. And what is done when the examination department sees a change in its authority and the new person in charge literally bangs the heads of everyone. Scary, isn’t it? Well it surely is. I have not cheated with cheats in my finals and mids. I have been too scared and I would rather score low than get a question mark sign on the degree. And the pro cheaters who are my friends have legit told people not to indulge in it lest they get caught. Fair and Square. But let’s get to the question, Why do students cheat?

Aren’t they aware of the evil consequences they may face once caught? Or are they afraid of doing hard work?

The answer is not simple and depends on a large number of factors. The main factor is fear of failure amidst the other less prominent ones of poor time management or lack of interest. There are a few more that can be read here, https://www.buffalo.edu/academic-integrity/about/reasons-students-cheat.html.

The cases of students committing suicide under pressure of studies and being a failure is an implication how far they have been pushed or how weak they have been that they did not even think before taking their lives, a life that they have not borne and brought up.

Cases also show that though students know it is wrong, they do it till that extent that keeps them integral as per their deal of the bargain and they think a little wrong that can get them better grades isn’t that bad an idea. The ideals are different for everyone but one underlying factor is common to all, if a student loves what he is doing, he would not do it wrong. This boils it all down to students not studying their subject choice, not understanding it well enough to deliver it properly, not being able to manage well, not being able to see the long term consequences it can bring. A detailed explanation of cheating, their reasons and their counter can be found here https://www.edutopia.org/article/why-students-cheat-and-what-do-about-it/.

Cheating is also a kind of rebellion or a way of proving that you outsmart others, though it is just an illusion in the mind bubble. The society that forces people to a corner and does not accept them whole-heartedly pushes them to the other edges where probably fair means are forgotten as an option. We write beautifully, With Love, From the bottom of my heart, Whole-heartedly but do we ever mean them? Have we tried encouraging people for who they are in reality and for once abandoned the mold we have been wanting them to fit into? Let’s start inspiring others in actions also and not through mere words. Let’s start the concept of instilling good beliefs too rather than playing the great blame-game with each other on who is responsible.

Goodness starts at home but it better starts with self-consciousness and awareness.
