Life hugs from a movie that feel like a warm embrace
Life may not always be smooth. And it is in these ups and downs, rough and soft patches that we learn, and live.
What is your comfort film?
I will go first, and you too think by and by. ‘Zindagi na milegi dobara’
The entire film made on the adventure journey of three friends who have lost touch with each other has actually more layers than meets the eye. The massive amount of courage required to face your friends after being vanished from each other’s lives for so long. The huge pile of plans to celebrate with your friends after taking a break from your regular job. The guts to face your friend after being involved with their romantic partner. The audacity to throw away your friend’s phone just because you think it’s annoying. The clarity in life that you get while talking your heart out to your buddies. The warmth that seeps out of each other and transpires everytime you go for a group hug. The reminders that life drops at odd moments. The unity that is shown at the worst of places to deal with strangers as a unit. The inside pranks and jokes that are heartwarming and also problematic.
Well, let me show you the layers that I saw, from my lens. You are free to have your interpretations and we can even discuss if you want. Always open for discussions, Ladies and Gentlemen.
I love the part where Laila comes to help Arjun and lets him explore the underwater and when she talks with him under the night sky. All the life lessons that Arjun had, were renewed the moment he met Laila. His chase was over upon meeting her. His restlessness stopped around her presence and it just made sense. Sometimes, no, most of the times, life is much more than we can think. It visits us in slow breaths and steady walks. It replenishes us as if giving a shower and refreshes as if drinking an energy syrup.
The lessons of Kabir are another wonder. From realizing his mistake to realizing his true happiness, he came a long way. Afterall, who does not crave for their individuality at all walks of life. Sure we all do. Natasha in real life might be present around but they can only be happy with another Natasha. Kabir will suffocate finding his identity and it is thus very important to open your mouth at the right moment, even if it breaks someone’s heart at that time. Because lies are more hurtful and painful.
How can I forget Imran? You beauty, and a piece of dumbass at the same time! How could you just throw the phone dude? Even though you think it is funny and fine, it is a little less practical. Had I been in place of Arjun, I would have beaten you black and blue. But your poetry and pain touched my heart. Leave Diamond Biscuits and Bagmati. You hold my hand and I will listen to your poetry the whole day. Having a Dad in someone who did not birth you, you truly understood what love is. And you realized it late, but I am glad you apologized to your mother, Saima.
And I cannot comprehend the pain and strength of Saima who chose her love, her unborn baby over the man she made love to. What sheer amount of courage did it take you Lady, to bear the brunt of your love and carry on that weight diligently. And I am even more thankful to the man who found his better half in you and never complained.
I have loved all the characters and though the grayness dyes them evil, it paints them human too. I literally detest Imran for what he did with Arjun but the pain with which he apologized took my heart. I could not understand how hard it was for Kabir to speak the truth then and there but isn’t that what we do to protect our loved ones. And loved ones can change, and a lot of other things can undergo a transition in the chain. Someone could be okay with it and someone could not. You were brave, Kabir, to let go of Natasha to someone who would protect her the way she wanted to.
And Arjun, whatever I say, it will fall short to the amount of love I have for you. Your sense of right and wrong, your idea of lie and truth, are absolutely amazing. Though a little bit of emotions are required, I am glad you got the best teacher in Laila. She is a friend, a companion, a confidant, a partner and everything. I love her bravery and boldness to chase after you on a bike just to make sure that she doesn’t regret it for not taking the chance when she could. Someday I wish I could be half as brave as her. Till then, I will continue admiring her.
