What are the transitions in college? And what do we do about it?

While the life at college calls for new things, all are not warmly welcomed. It takes a while to adjust ourselves in the environment because it is a whole new world, waiting on us. Survive your college well, buddies.

Are you in an engineering college? Yes, then you will relate to all my pains I am about to narrate. And you all will surely understand that I am not really exaggerating at this point. I am just pissed off. With things, people, subjects, basically my college. The college that absorbed us by tying our high hopes to its not so strong sails is finally revealing its true colours. While I sit to do a workload of things, there are people always either pulling you down or loading you with something extremely unnecessary.

The exams and quizzes that honestly do not have anything to do with the understanding of the subject are weird enough to begin with. But to top it off, we have their practicals too. Either the systems are slow or the programs uninstalled. The obsolete files and outdated systems take more than one class for the installation. Why? There is a certain level of conspiracy everywhere. Payments? Done. Salary hike? Done. Facilities? Done. Favourism? Done. But as they say, the more you laud someone, the more they go astray. It is one of the most common sights to behold.

The situations may vary at places depending on the place you belong to. Either it may magnify itself or just be a little below the scale I am explaining. But the structure remains the same. The dean, completely lost in his power and exploiting its usage, the faculties considering themselves angels and devils, the non teaching staff moving around with an air castle in their reign, the examination department exercising its torments, and the offices flooding with useless papers.

I don’t understand the reasons for this. We like to go paperless, right? But no, this place does not want it. The faculties are to teach the subject and mark us, right? But no, they really love to poke their noses in personal matters and then pass on comments. It is a quite unknown reason because they are the real gossip buddies and no one knows their reason. Maybe they have a lot of free time. Utilise it for yourselves then. Why bring people in the loop who have no relation to you? Gossip about yourselves, but no. The professors at college are also a kind of bully. And the way they do it, nothing can be done about it. Revolt is not a peaceful way, and if they ever get to know about it, grades are sure to go crashing down. The effective way is to ignore it, but the shadows it casts on a person is sometimes too much to bear. The syllabus taught is really too much. And the curriculum does not help in any way. I have studied subjects I do not even remember now. The subjects can have a certain degree of importance depending on students, but that just does not happen. Difficult life. And there is no escape from it.

I tried talking, but who will go against the system? Who would want to take a storm under their name? No one. And the place I am at now, even I would not go up alone. So I am just bearing with all these things that are taking a toll on me. These things that hurt me each day and I still keep with troubles. The people are only cribbing and not all are focussed on solutions. The better proportions are so hard to find and even if you do, it may very well happen that you would not bond with them. And the way time management decisions are taken wrongly adds the oil to the fire. Learning a new thing? Just not possible easily. It takes time to understand all the bad decisions that we have taken. And the time to undo them has already gone long by. The only thing that becomes possible then is to better oneself and work for it.

The goals are yours and mine. Life is yours and mine. The dreams are yours and mine. Let’s fight our own selves first. Because let’s accept it, life remains equally unfair to everyone. The measurements may differ but unfairness is always distributed to people. Let’s try to ditch the blames and take all the credits for the wrongs. We will fight with the world later. For now, let’s focus on ourselves. Time is slipping. It will not be long enough before even this slides away. It’s time we build ourselves. College is the place to do it all. You are growing and I am growing. Freedom is what we are striving for. It’s time to work on it, work for it.
